Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Caveat, including the Caveat browser extension and website (together, the "Service"). By using Caveat, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Service.
1. What Caveat is
Caveat is a free browser extension that analyses publicly visible product reviews and produces an automated trust score and related analysis. Caveat is designed to help you make more informed purchasing decisions. It is an informational tool and is not a substitute for your own judgment, research, or professional advice.
Caveat does not sell access to its core Service. We may generate revenue through affiliate links and other commercial relationships described in Section 4.
2. The score is an opinion, not a fact
Every score, verdict, flag, and analysis produced by Caveat is an automated assessment based on patterns identified in publicly available information, including review text, ratings, and other information available to the Service.
A Caveat score is not a factual determination that:
- a review is fake, fraudulent, or otherwise inauthentic;
- a reviewer is genuine or not genuine;
- a seller has acted dishonestly or unlawfully;
- a product is defective, unsafe, counterfeit, or otherwise unsuitable; or
- any particular person or business has engaged in misconduct.
Caveat's analyses can be wrong. A genuine listing or review may receive a lower score than it deserves, and a manipulated or unreliable listing may receive a higher score than it deserves.
You should therefore treat Caveat's output as one source of information among many, and not as a definitive assessment or guarantee. You remain responsible for making your own purchasing and other decisions.
3. Limitations of automated analysis
Caveat relies on information that may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, unavailable, or subsequently changed by third parties. The Service may therefore produce incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading results even where the underlying information appears reliable.
Caveat does not independently verify every review, reviewer, seller, product, or other piece of information analysed by the Service. Caveat's automated systems may also change over time as we improve the Service, update our methodology, or change the information and technologies on which the Service relies.
You should not rely solely on a Caveat score when making a purchase or any other decision that could have significant financial, legal, health, safety, or other consequences.
4. Affiliate links and commercial relationships
Caveat may contain links to third-party retailers, marketplaces, merchants, or other services that operate affiliate programmes. If you click an affiliate link and subsequently make a qualifying purchase or take another qualifying action, Caveat may receive a commission or other commercial benefit from the third party. This does not normally result in an additional charge to you.
Affiliate relationships help fund the operation and development of Caveat. Unless we expressly tell you otherwise, affiliate relationships do not determine or influence the Caveat score itself. A product or seller is not given a higher or lower score simply because Caveat may receive an affiliate commission.
Caveat is not the seller of products linked through the Service. Any purchase you make through a third-party website is a transaction between you and that third party, and is subject to that third party's own terms, policies, pricing, and conditions.
5. Third-party websites and services
Caveat may interact with, analyse information from, or link to third-party websites and services. We do not control third-party websites or services and cannot guarantee their availability, accuracy, security, content, or continued operation.
Third-party websites may have their own terms of service, privacy policies, cookie policies, and other conditions. You are responsible for reviewing those terms before using a third-party service or making a purchase.
A link provided by Caveat does not necessarily constitute an endorsement or recommendation of the third party or its products.
6. Seller disputes and corrections
If you are a seller, retailer, brand, reviewer, or other affected party and believe that a Caveat analysis is materially inaccurate, you may use our seller dispute process to raise the issue with us.
We will consider disputes raised in good faith and may amend an analysis where we determine that it is materially inaccurate. However, submitting a dispute does not automatically result in an analysis being removed or changed.
Caveat does not act as a court, regulator, arbitrator, or investigator of disputes between sellers, reviewers, customers, or other parties. We may therefore be unable to determine whether an underlying allegation, review, transaction, or other event actually occurred. We will assess disputes based on the information reasonably available to us and may retain an analysis where we consider that the available information supports it.
Nothing in this section prevents any person from exercising rights they may have under applicable law.
7. Acceptable use
You may use Caveat for your own personal, lawful purposes. You must not:
- use Caveat to engage in unlawful activity;
- attempt to circumvent technical restrictions or reasonable usage limits;
- scrape, systematically collect, or reproduce Caveat's analysis data at scale;
- republish or commercially resell Caveat's analysis data without our permission;
- interfere with the operation or security of the Service;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its systems, or accounts;
- reverse engineer or attempt to extract proprietary components of the Service except where such restriction is prohibited by applicable law; or
- use the Service in a way that could reasonably be expected to damage Caveat, its users, or third parties.
We may take reasonable steps to protect the Service against misuse, abuse, security threats, or excessive automated activity.
8. Availability and changes to Caveat
Caveat is provided as a free service and we do not guarantee that it will always be available or uninterrupted. The Service may be temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, technical problems, changes to third-party websites or services, browser changes, hosting issues, security measures, or other circumstances.
We may add, modify, suspend, or remove features of Caveat from time to time. We may also discontinue the Service entirely. Where reasonably practicable, we will try to provide notice of significant changes or discontinuation, but we cannot guarantee that advance notice will always be possible.
9. No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Caveat is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that:
- the Service will always be available;
- the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free;
- every review or other piece of information will be identified or analysed;
- Caveat's analyses will always be accurate, complete, current, or reliable;
- a Caveat score will correctly identify manipulated or unreliable reviews; or
- using Caveat will result in a particular purchasing outcome.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any warranty, guarantee, right, remedy, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Caveat and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss or damage, or for loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, or data, arising from or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
In particular, Caveat is not responsible for losses arising from a purchasing decision or other decision made in reliance on a Caveat score, analysis, flag, or other output.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including any liability or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable consumer protection law.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to the Service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts.

If these terms change materially once finalized, we'll update the date above and note what changed.
